Parrot Harness Sizing Guide: Find the Right Fit
Finding the right harness size is an important part of keeping your feathered adventurer comfortable and safe.
At Majick Feathers, we recommend measuring your parrot's shoulder-to-waist length to help determine the most suitable harness size. Our guide includes measurement instructions, a harness sizing chart, approximate weight ranges and size recommendations for popular companion parrot species.
Whether you're fitting a small Conure or a magnificent Macaw, we'll help you understand the sizing options so you can make a more informed choice.
Remember: Every bird is different! Measurements are our preferred starting point, while species and weight provide additional guidance. If you're unsure which size to choose, our flock is happy to help.
Which Majick Feathers harness should I choose?
- Explorer Harness: A simple, no-head-loop design available in selected sizes.
- Adventurer Harness: Features an adjustable belt and head loop.
- Adventurer Small & Petite: Designed for smaller parrots, including Conures, Caiques and Hahn's Macaws.
How to use this sizing chart
- Measure your bird's shoulder-to-waist length in millimetres.
- Compare the measurement with our sizing chart.
- Use your bird's species and weight as additional guidance.
Weight ranges are approximate, and individual birds can differ in body shape and proportions. If your bird's measurements and weight suggest different sizes, contact Majick Feathers before choosing.
How to measure your bird
Our preferred way to choose a Majick Feathers harness size is to measure your bird’s shoulder-to-waist length. With your bird standing upright, measure the straight distance from shoulder level down to the waist, just above where the leg meets the body. Record the measurement in millimetres (mm). Measure the length, not around the body.

Majick Feathers harness size guide
Use shoulder-to-waist measurement first. If that measurement is not available, your bird’s species and weight in grams can provide secondary guidance. Weight ranges are approximate and overlap; they do not guarantee fit.
Why do harness sizes have overlapping weight ranges?
Parrots of the same species and weight can have different body shapes and proportions. Weight is therefore a guide rather than a guarantee of fit. Always use your bird's shoulder-to-waist measurement as the primary starting point, and contact Majick Feathers if you're unsure which size is suitable.
| Size | Shoulder to waist | Approximate weight |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 50 mm | 60–150 g |
| Small (S) | 60 mm | 100–200 g |
| Medium (M) | 70 mm | 300–600 g |
| M-Slim | 70 mm | 200–500 g |
| Large (L) | 80 mm | 500–900 g |
| XL | 90 mm | 700–1100 g |
| 2XL | 100 mm | 1100 g and above |
This sizing guide applies across Majick Feathers harness models. Explorer is not available in Small (S) or XS.
Medium or M-Slim?
Medium and M-Slim both have a 70 mm shoulder-to-waist measurement. M-Slim is designed for birds with a slender waist: its waistband opens to almost the same maximum size as Medium, but adjusts down smaller for a better fit around a narrower waist.
Harness sizes by bird species
These species recommendations are starting points, not a guarantee of fit. Check shoulder-to-waist measurement first; use species and weight as secondary guidance when that measurement is not available. Explorer is not available in Small (S) or XS.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size harness does my parrot need?
The best starting point is your parrot's shoulder-to-waist measurement. Compare this measurement with the Majick Feathers sizing chart, then use your bird's species and weight as additional guidance. If you're unsure, contact us for assistance.
How do I measure my parrot for a harness?
With your parrot standing upright, measure the straight distance from shoulder level to the waist, just above where the leg meets the body. Record the measurement in millimetres. Measure the length rather than the circumference around the body.
Can I choose a harness size based on my parrot's weight?
Weight can help narrow down the options, but it shouldn't be the only factor. Individual parrots can differ in body proportions, even within the same species. Use shoulder-to-waist measurement as your preferred starting point.
Which harness is best for a small parrot?
The Majick Feathers Adventurer Small & Petite is designed for smaller parrots, including Conures, Caiques and Hahn's Macaws. However, suitability depends on your individual bird's measurements and the available harness sizing.
What's the difference between the Explorer and Adventurer harnesses?
The Explorer features a simpler design without a head loop, while the Adventurer features an adjustable belt and head loop. Both can be used for harness training, provided the design is appropriate for the individual bird and training is introduced gradually using positive reinforcement.
What if I'm between harness sizes?
If your bird's measurement, weight and species recommendation suggest different sizes, don't guess. Contact Majick Feathers with your bird's species, shoulder-to-waist measurement and weight, if available, so we can help you assess the options.
I have already been using another harness, can i just order the same size?
Do not assume that the same size label will fit across different harness brands. Use your bird’s shoulder-to-waist measurement and check our guide, or provide their species and weight if that measurement is not available.

Sizing advice from the Majick Feathers flock
Majick Feathers believes in Training over Taming. We recommend choosing a harness based on your bird's individual measurements rather than relying on species or weight alone. Every parrot is different, so taking the time to assess the fit and introduce the harness gradually through positive-reinforcement training helps support a better experience for both bird and handler.
